How to use the charts below to understand the panthers salary cap situation
With their salary cap set at $62.1 million for next season, the Panthers have plenty of cap space to spend on free agents.
That means they will be able to sign all of their free agents on the open market.
The salary cap is set to increase by $8 million next season with an additional $3 million cap hit in 2019, meaning the Panthers will be under the cap at $63.1-million next season.
With the salary cap being set at the cap this season, there will be some extra cap room to spend if the Panthers do sign a big name free agent.
The Panthers cap hit for next year will likely be $60 million or so.
The following chart displays the Panthers salary cap, as well as their cap hits for the rest of the season, and the total amount of cap room for the team.

This chart shows how the Panthers cap situation will change over the next three seasons.
The number on the bottom represents the number of dollars the Panthers are projected to be able free agent spend on each free agent, while the number on top represents the Panthers potential cap hit from that free agent signing.
In terms of how the salary-cap situation will look over the rest to 2020, you’ll notice the Panthers aren’t in as deep of a hole as some other teams.
In 2019, the cap hit was $62 million, which means the Panthers could have spent $45 million.
At the end of the day, the only way to know if a team is in a good position to spend the money they have on free agent free agents is by looking at their cap numbers in 2019 and 2020.
The cap hit of a team will be higher when that team is under the salary limit and under the maximum amount they can spend on a player.
One thing to keep in mind when looking at the salary pool is that a team can only spend $100 million on one player on a one-year deal.
So, the salary is still very small for a team like the Panthers, but if the team can spend $90 million on a free agent like DeAngelo Williams or DeMarcus Ware, the team will have a bigger cushion to spend.
