How to read BMI charts
Time magazine is reporting that BMI (Body Mass Index) charts are actually getting more accurate over time.
“In the past, BMI was only used to determine whether a person was overweight or obese,” Time’s report says.
“It was only in the past decade or so that the BMI has been used to predict the risk of disease.
It’s been used for decades to predict weight and disease, and it’s been getting better.
We’ve also found that the change in BMI data is mostly driven by changes in trends in body fat, which have been driven by trends in the use of weight-loss pills and exercise machines.”
